To ensure it’s legalities, Northern Colorado Poker has to offer it free for the people wishing to play, enforce that no form of currency be placed on the tables and not require patrons to purchase from the venue, although, it will be highly encouraged.

State statute defines gambling as having three distinct characteristics: Prize, Chance, and Consideration of Financial risk. If any of these three characteristics are missing, the event is within the law. Prizes will be given. Poker, by law, is considered to be a game of “chance.” However, there is no consideration or financial risk involved because we are not charging a fee for players to play. There is no “buy-in.” We cannot require players to make a purchase from the host location. Chips used in our tournament have no financial value.
